Gorilla trekking in Uganda gets better!!!
Word reaching us from Buhoma which located in the northern sector of Bwindi is the apparent expansion of the Mubare gorilla family as it has welcomed a new baby to add on its growing number. The Mubare family is a historical family in the world of gorilla tour Uganda because it was the first gorilla to be open for trekking in 1993 on the 13th of October to be precise.
The History of the Mubare family
The family was named after Mubare hills in Buhoma where this group is was first located.as we earlier stated, this family opened the doors of the magical Uganda gorilla safaris experience in 1993, something that has continued to captivate the hearts of many Africa gorilla safari-goers. This family suffered the loss of its first silver buck leader called Ruhondeza who was believed to be the oldest gorilla aged about 50 years old at the time of his death which was a mysterious death on the 27th June 2012. Ruhondeza was given a decent burial with the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Prior to his death, Ruhondeza was attacked by a wild silverback gorilla which fought and defeated him.after suffering a humiliating defeat, Ruhondeza felt humiliated and as a result, he abandoned the family and retired to the human communities where he sought refuge and he was cared for by the locals in these communities until he met his death. His demise was a huge blow to the Mubare family and as a result, many of its members went rogue as they departed to join other families and Mubare only remained with 5 members. However, recently the group has grown in numbers to 9 members under the leadership of Kanyonyi with the new baby taking the tally of members in this family to 10.
