This 5 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari starts with a Kigali City tour, then a visit to Nyungwe National Park which has the highest number of primate species including the rare Chimpanzee species.

You will then visit Volcanoes National Park to have a memorable face-to-face adventure with the mountain Gorilla in their natural habitat.

5 Days Rwanda Wildlife – Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kanombe International Airport & Embark in Kigali City

Upon your arrival at Kanombe international airport in Kigali, you will be met by our professional driver guide who will warmly welcome you and then transfer you to your pre-booked Kigali hotel for a Cup of coffee and refreshment.

Thereafter, embark on a Kigali City tour. The city tour will take you through the Gisozi genocide memorial center where you will have time to listen to the complete history of Rwanda during the 1994 genocide and the events of the massacres, including personal accounts. You will view the Photographs, video clips, and artifacts of the genocide.

Right after visiting the Gisozi genocide memorial, you will advance to tour other interesting places like Nyamata church and Presidential Palace, and explore the Natural History Museum also known as ‘Kandt house’ the first modern house built in Kigali since its existence as a capital city.

You may visit art and craft centers like Caplaki, and Inganzo gallery where you will spend time learning how to sew peace baskets and make Imigongo that Rwandans use for home decoration and visit local Markets Like Cyimironko Local Market and Kicukiro Local Market.

In the evening, you will join the Susa Tours cultural troupe for cultural entertainment. Here you will experience contemporary music, African, Rwandan food, and drinks.

Afterward, retire back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park & En-route Stopover at Butare National Museum, Malaba Coffee Factory in Nyanza.

After your early morning breakfast, you will depart Kigali prepared for a 6-7hours drive heading in the southwestern direction to Nyungwe national park.

This journey is very fascinating as you will traverse through amazing rolling hills and picturesque landscapes.

Your driver-guide will slowly drive to allow you to capture the best photographs. You will have lunch en route and a number of stopovers at Butare National Museum, Nyanza (Rukali) as well as Malaba coffee factory, plus other exciting areas.

Arrive late in the evening and check into your lodge. Have dinner and get ready for the amazing day of tracking chimpanzees.

Day 3: Do an Early Morning Chimpanzee Trekking & Afternoon Canopy Walk.

Canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National ParkAfter your early morning breakfast, you will drive to the park headquarters for an early morning briefing about the rules to follow when trekking the chimps.

After the briefing, you will be led by the ranger guide through the beautiful forest trail to trek the fascinating chimpanzee creatures.

Along the trails, you will enjoy the nice melodies of different bird species housed in the forest and you will also have a chance to enjoy the views of other primates like grey-cheeked mangabey, and monkeys.

The activity takes between 2-6 hours but experienced guides will also make sure that they take you where you will have to see the primates as fast as possible.

Face-to-face encounters with the chimpanzees is very amazing because you will observe them play, feed and rest.

After this worthwhile experience, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and later explore the canopy walks to see the beautiful twin lakes as well as various bird species.

Day 4: Drive Transfer From Nyungwe to Volcanoes National park

5 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari Tour

After an early breakfast, you will embark on a drive transfer from Nyungwe to Volcanoes National Park.

Wind your way through the beautiful countryside and you’ll understand why they call this “the land of one thousand hills.

The ride will offer you great views of Lake Kivu ideal for photography. You will enjoy lunch on the way and continue with this interesting drive. Arrive in the park in the afternoon and drive to the nearby community for cultural encounters.

The cultural encounter will give you a rare opportunity to interact with the local people in their natural environment, with a taste of their unique culture and traditions.

After cultural refreshment and entrainment, you will retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Volcanoes National Park & Transfer to Kigali, Departure

After an early hearty breakfast, you will be driven by your driver guide to the park headquarters for a briefing regarding gorilla trekking by the park rangers.

After the briefing, you will be led by a ranger guide to hike through the verdant jungle searching for mountain gorillas.

The experience is tedious but very interesting especially when you are spending one hour with the apes.

You will see them moving into their social families as they go about their day-to-day routine activities; mothers caring for the young, playing as well as feeding. Right after one hour is over, you will head back to the lodge for late lunch and relaxation.

After relaxation, you will leave Volcanoes national park heading to Kigali Capital City. The journey will offer you a very fascinating experience as you will traverse through amazing scenery all around the area.

On arrival in Kigali, you will be driven to Kigali international Airport for your scheduled flight back home.
