5 Days Rwanda Safari Tour – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival At The Airport & Do Kigali City Tour Including Gisozi Genocide Memorial & Transfer To Volcanoes National Park

As soon as you land at Kigali International Airport for your 5 days Rwanda safari tour, you will be met by your professional driver guide who will then welcome you and thereafter transfer you to any of the Kigali hotels for mini-break refreshment and a chivalrous introduction in regard to the safari and Rwanda in general.

Thereafter, you will embark on a visit to Kigali markets to explore how the local Rwandese make ends meet through their businesses.

The range of products that are sold will be an experience of its own. You will also visit the Gisozi genocide memorial where you will get a complete account of the remains of the Rwandese local population mainly the Tutsi and the moderate Hutus that were victims of the merciless Rwanda Genocide in 1994.

Right after exploring the site, you will depart Kigali driving through rolling hills and fascinating landscapes to Volcanoes National Park for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Early Morning Gorilla Trekking & Afternoon Cultural Tour Or Twin Lakes Walk

After taking a hearty breakfast, report to the park headquarters for early morning registration and briefing about the Rwanda gorilla trekking etiquettes in Volcanoes Park.

In this session, you will be assigned a particular gorilla family or group that you are going to encounter. In case you are not physically fit, you are allowed to inform the responsible park officials so that they can assign you a less strenuous Gorilla family.

After the briefing, the experienced Ranger guides will lead you into the forest trails to search for the critically endangered mountain gorillas thriving in the hilly forested areas of Volcanoes National Park.

Rwanda Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes Park may last between 2 – 8 hours depending on the movements of the apes will reward you with one (1) hour of memorable direct encounters with Mountain gorillas.

You will see them feed their young ones, look for food among other gorilla daily activities and at that time, you are allowed to take as many photos as you wish after which you will disembark to the starting point where the activity starts from. After retiring to the park headquarters, transfer to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

After lunch, you either embark on cultural encounters with the local communities around the Volcanoes National Park. The cultural encounter will give you a rare opportunity to interact with the local people in their natural environment, with a taste of their unique culture and traditions.

You will visit community schools, and local homesteads; listen to interesting stories about the local people. Alternatively, you can decide to take on a visit to the Twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera for amazing scenic views and a recreational boat cruise. Retire in the evening for dinner and overnight

Day 3: Early Morning Drive Transfer From Volcanoes National Park To Akagera National Park Via Kigali City.

Depart Volcanoes national park after an early morning breakfast driving to Akagera National Park in the east of Rwanda. The overland journey will see you go through the magnificent rolling hills that make Rwanda to be called the land of thousand of hills.

You will traverse through Kigali city and then advance to Akagera National Park arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Do Morning Game Drive & An Afternoon Boat Cruise On Lake Ihema

After an early cup of coffee, you will embark on the game drive in the well-connected tracks of Akagera national park to search for unique wildlife species like Buffaloes, elephants, Masai giraffe, waterbuck, Eland, Topi, Impala, Warthogs, and Zebras among other animals.

On rare occasions, you may see species such as leopard, lion, and black rhino. As one of the most scenic savanna parks in East Africa, the game drive in Akagera will provide you pretty opportunity to see gentle hills blending in beautifully lowland swamps and water bodies.

In the afternoon, you will embark on the boat cruise on Lake Ihema which is the second largest lake in Rwanda with the possibility of encountering Crocodiles and Hippos not forgetting a range of water birds. This boat cruise can be done in the afternoon or at the sunset.

Day 5: Drive To Kigali City, Nyamata Genocide Memorial& Drive To The Airport

Early in the morning, you will depart Akagera national park driving back to Kigali city. The drive to Kigali is very pleasing as it will take you through the picturesque landscape of Rwanda.

When drawing closer to Kigali, you will visit the Nyamata genocide memorial to have an encounter with the group of the local Rwandese who were found in a church where they had sought a refugee and mercilessly killed.

After this encounter, you will embark on the transfer to the Kigali International Airport for the flight back home.
