The 6 days wildlife safari in Rwanda starts with a Kigali City tour then a visit to Akagera National Park, a park that covers an area of about 2500 sq. km of savannah vegetation west of the Kagera River.

6 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive In Rwanda & Be Picked Up By Your Guide

You will meet our Rwanda safari tour guide on arrival at the airport. He will take you through a short briefing about your 6 days Rwanda safari and after transferring you to your hotel, freshen up, dine and rest.

Day 2: Arrival at Kigali International Airport and Transfer to Akagera National Park Rwanda.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive in The Park, Have An Afternoon Boat Ride, And Evening Game Drives As You Depart For Your Hotel/Lodge.

Start your day with an early morning breakfast at the lodge before joining your ranger in your open  4×4 safari land cruiser for your morning game drive in the park.

This half-day game drive will offer you the opportunity to spot a variety of wild animals including elephants, buffalos, lions, Masai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Burchell’s zebra, topi, bush baby, leopard, and bushbuck.

Later in the afternoon after your game drive, you will return to the lodge for your lunch.

After your lunch, proceed for a boat cruise along Lake Ihema that lasts about 2hours, a ride that will bring you close to the water animals like Crocodiles and Hippos, as well as a large concentration of bird life.

The park has over 525 species identified bird species with unique species like the Shoe billed stock and papyrus gonolek among the many others.

This park has Endemics including the jacanas, ibis, sandpipers, and herons. Retire from the boat cruise and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight as you do a simple game drive.

Day 4: Transfer From Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park and Do a Nature Walk

Have breakfast in the morning at the lodge, and prepare to set off for Volcanoes National Park for an unquestionably incomparable experience of Mountain gorilla tracking. The drive is about 217km covered in about 4 hours.

Arrive at the park and check-in your accommodation and have lunch. Take an afternoon nature walk through the nearby forest and the nearby crater lakes for a picturesque view, bird watching, and photography. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Do Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up to an early morning breakfast at the lodge and then transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters with your packed lunch before 8 am for your briefing by the park rangers on how you are going to carry out your Rwanda gorilla trekking safari.

After the briefing, you will be led by the rangers into the forest in search of the brilliant apes. You will use slippery and muddy trails along the Volcanoes Mountain slopes which is a little challenging.

This Rwanda gorilla tour will last between 2-8 hours including the 1 hour that will be given to you after spotting the mountain gorillas.

During this hour, you will watch the gorillas carry out their activities, feed, build nests, and cuddle giving you chance to take lots of pictures.

Depending on how you will be feeling, you can visit the panoramic twin volcanic lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. After the simple nature walk, you will return to your lodge for dinner.
