13 Days Uganda Rwanda Safari – Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda Through The Entebbe International Airport & Transfer To The Hotel That Was Prior Booked For You

Arrive in Kigali at the Kigali International Airport where you will meet our Uganda Rwanda safari guide/ representative.

Meet and greet, and he will give you a short briefing about your 13 days Uganda gorilla safari Bwindi, Adventure safari, wildlife & chimpanzee trekking safari Rwanda.

After the briefing, you will be transferred to the Hotel that was prior booked for you, check-in, relax and spend your night.

Day 2: Do a Kigali City Tour And Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Wake up early in the morning at your hotel, pack your bags and go for your Kigali city tour and visit the National Museum, the genocide memorial, craft markets, and more.

Have lunch and depart for Nyungwe National Park Rwanda driving through the rolling hills, a journey that will take you around 8 hours via the Ruhengeri-Gisenyi road.

Arrive in Nyungwe National Park at your prior booked accommodation in the park.

Day 3: Do Your Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Nyungwe Forest National Park And A Canopy Walk in The Afternoon

After your early morning breakfast, you and your driver-guide drive to the park offices for a short briefing about how to conserve the forest when trekking the chimpanzees (do’s and the don’ts of chimpanzees trekking).

You will then enter the forest for your Uganda chimpanzee trekking safari with the rangers to search for the chimpanzees.

During your chimpanzee trekking safari in Uganda, you will watch some chimpanzees on the ground and others in the branches of the trees in the forest.

Expect to hear chimpanzees make several sounds, chattering, laughing and watching them jump from one branch to another.

While you look for the chimps expect to spot more primates like the white and black Columbus, vervet monkey, manageably.

Trekking takes about 4 hours so take as many photos and videos as you can. Return to the lodge for lunch and refresh as well.

After lunch, go for your afternoon canopy walk, on a bridge that is suspended from large trees. While there, you will be able to have a great amazing view of the rainforest spotting a good number of birds in the forest, as well as wildlife, moving about below you.

This activity takes about 2hours. Retreat from the activity and return to the lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park To The Lodge That Was via Booked For You Your Stay That Night

After breakfast at your lodge, you will hit the road for a road trip to Bwindi Forest National Park via the Rwanda – Uganda border driving through the Kigezi High lands and if you wish, may take a visit to Lake Bunyonyi, a birders’ paradise before e proceeding to Bwindi NP.

Upon arrival, check-in at your lodge/ hotel, rest or take astride to the nearing villages and communities. Later, dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 5: Be Up Early So You Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After breakfast at your hotel, set off for your journey and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where the tour will be doing your gorilla tour of Uganda.

You drive to the country’s southwest heading for a 527km journey taking about 8 -10 hours. You drive along the Entebbe highway and connect to Masaka road on a smooth tarmac road driving for about 77km to make a stop at the Uganda Equator crossing Kayabwe where the world’s main latitude partitions the world into the northern and the southern hemisphere can be encountered.

You will undertake unique water experiments to justify the geographical divide between the north and the southern hemispheres.

While there, you can take photos with one leg in the northern hemisphere and another one in the southern hemisphere.

Retreat from the break and continue with your journey to Igongo Cultural Center 12km from Mbarara for a local cuisine prepared in a modern setting and served in standard utensils.

The food is organically grown and freshly served. Continue on the drive welcomed by the fascinating Kigezi Highlands arriving in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 6: Do Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest And Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi For An Evening Boat Cruise Along The Lake And Relaxation

Wake up to a very interesting day that will mark your reunion with our long-lost cousins; the Mountain Gorillas. You are required to gather at the respective park headquarters for a

briefing in the morning at 8 am where you are allocated your respective gorilla family to track. From here, you head to the forest in the company of the armed ranger guides that will lead you up the gorillas.

The walk is beyond the ordinary as it involves traversing the dense jungle whose thickness would at some points necessitate using a machete to make a path, hiking the challenging landscapes some of which are steep and slippery at times under the canopy of the mature forest which forms darkness even during the day. You are treated to the impressive bird songs and beautiful flowers throughout the experience.

The encounter tends to take 2 – 8 hours depending on the gorilla’s movements and one hour is availed to you to have a direct touch with the gorillas.

Upon approaching gorillas, their reaction is not predictable as it can include them giving you a courteous welcome, minding less about you and charging against you.

However, as a result of habituation, Mountain gorillas are always welcoming with the Silverback beating a little of his chest to demonstrate his might and also welcoming you to the group.

The young gorillas are very playful and are at times not aware of the 7m rule thus can try to draw closer to even touching your body – save it by taking some steps away to observe the distance.

You are not limited in any way to ask as many questions about gorillas and their habitats along with taking pictures so long as you have the opportunity to do so.

After your one hour with the gorillas, return to the starting point and transfer to the starting point to embark on the transfer to Lake Bunyonyi driving through fascinating Kigezi Highlands where locals apply the terracing method to cultivate their slopes deriving impressive scenic landscape.

You arrive at Lake Bunyonyi in the afternoon for relaxation and a recreational boat ride on the lake, dinner, and overnight

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park And Do a Game Drive En-route in The Ishasha Sector in Search Of Tree Climbing Lions

Depart at 7 am after breakfast for the 289km about 8 – 10 hours’ drive to upper Queen Elizabeth National Park with an en-route game drive in Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions and other wild game.

Day 8: Do a Morning Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, An Afternoon Kazinga Channel Launch Cruise, And An Evening Game Drive Along The Channel Track

Settle for breakfast before setting off for game drive at 7 am.  Kasenyi sector is the main area of interest and offers good possibilities for spotting Lions, Elephants, Leopard, Topi, Uganda Kobs, Warthogs, spotted hyenas, and Buffaloes among others. The game drive lasts 3 – 4 hours after which you drive to Mweya peninsular for hot lunch.

You will sign up for the 2 pm Kazinga Channel boat cruise for a two-hour experience along this amazing natural channel with the possibility of viewing Nile Crocodiles, Hippos, and birds on the shores like Saddle-billed stork, African skimmers, and many more not forgetting the wild game.

Upon return from the boat, you do a game drive along the channel track as you head back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Do  Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Kalinzu Forest Reserve, And Later Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park For An Afternoon Game Drive

Engage in Chimpanzee trekking encounter in Kalinzu Forest Reserve taking 2 – 5-hour trek in search of Chimpanzees.

You enjoy the sights and sounds of lush tropical forest and then 1 hour with Chimpanzees as they feed and demonstrate their behaviours.

From the activity, proceed to Lake Mburo National Park making a lunch stop at Igongo Cultural centre & proceeding to the park for an afternoon game drive.

Day 10: You Will Do a Morning Game Walking Safari in Lake Mburo National Park, a Simple Game Drive, And After Transfer Back to Kampala

After your early morning breakfast, you will undertake a nature walk-the most interesting game walks in the country that will expose you to various species of primates, birds, antelopes like elands, waterbucks, Impala, Topis, Bushbuck, Klipspringer among others, buffaloes, Rothschild giraffe, Burchell’s Zebra, wart hogs among other species not forgetting the beautiful savannah landscape dotted with great acacia.

Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Entebbe 280km about 5 hours’ drive making a stop at Uganda Equator crossing Kayabwe for magical photo shoots where one leg can be placed in the north sphere and the other remains in the south.

It is also an impressive site for purchasing a souvenir to take back home as a remembrance of this safari in Uganda.

Day 11: Transfer to Jinja For Quad Biking And Horse-riding Safari in The Afternoon

Set off for Jinja early in the morning for your quad biking safari in Jinja where you will have fun riding along different terrains.

Have lunch and after go for a horse-riding safari in the afternoon. Retire and transfer to your hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 12: Do Water Rafting in The Morning, Have Lunch, And Do a Boat Cruise To The Source of The Nile

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will set off for your white-water rafting safari along the Nile where you will have fun with the roaring rapids of the world’s longest river.

Return from rafting, have lunch, and go for your boat ride along the river to the source of the Nile. After your boat cruise, you will set off for your hotel, dine and rest.

Day 13: Return to Kampala, En-route Visit Mbaira Forest and Sezibwa Falls

Set off for Kampala after your early morning breakfast at your hotel. You will break your journey with a stopover at Mabira Forest for a nature walk and a simple Uganda birding safari, you will visit the Sezibwa falls for a cultural safari before you proceed to your hotel booked for you in Kampala or at the Entebbe International airport for your late flight back home.
